JORDAN. (Michael A. Jordan) One of the prominent attorneys at the Minneapolis bar is M. A. Jordan, who has practiced in this city since 1904. He was born on a farm near Waverly, Minnesota, a son of Patrick and Bridget (O'Malley) Jordan, both natives of Ireland. M. A. Jordan was reared on the home farm, attended the country schools, and at the age of eighteen years entered the Minneapolis Academy. He then taught school for a period of four years, at the termination of which time he took a course in the Winona Normal School. He then accepted the position of principal of the schools at Stephen, Minnesota, and was active in that important capacity during the year 1899. In 1900 he entered the University of Michigan and was graduated with the LL. B. degree in the year 1903. He took postgraduate work at the University of Minnesota, which conferred the L. C. M. degree upon him one year later. In that year he commenced practice in Minneapolis and he has since resided here. He brought to the profession thorough training and innate ability and achieved success from the start. He has always stood far the highest ethics of his profession and he enjoys an extensive and important clientele. Mr. Jordan was a member of the National Guard three years prior to 1898 and in that year went to the front in the Spanish-American war. He was a member of Company C, Twelfth Minnesota Regiment. During the World war Mr. Jordan gave generously of his time and money in the furtherance of the government's interests. He served as adviser to the draft board during the entire period without remuneration. In 1920 was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Jordan and Miss Mary W. Towey. They have one son, Junior Jordan. Mrs. Jordan is a woman of culture and refinement and she is active in the club and social circles of this city. Since attaining his majority Mr. Jordan has given his political allegiance to the democratic party and the principles for which it stands. He is essentially public-spirited and is a dominant factor in the promotion of every movement for the benefit of the community at large. Mr. Jordan's religious faith is that of the Catholic church, his membership being in the Church of the Annunciation. Mr. Jordan is president of the Minneapolis Bar Association and is a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association. Fraternally he is identified with the Independent Order of Foresters, of which he is high counsellor, and he has attained the fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus. He belongs to the Protective Home Circle, the Modern Woodmen and the Sportsman's Club.
