KELLY One of the popular and progressive business men of Minneapolis is Andrew J. Kelly, who is engaged in the insurance and real estate business. A native of this state, his birth occurred on the 15th of August, 1885, a son of Andrew and Mary (Harvey) Kelly. His father was born in Limerick, Ireland, and came to this country in 1845. In 1849 he joined in the gold rush to California and remained in that state until 1852, when he returned to Minnesota and homesteaded in Rice county. He was one of the pioneer farmers of that county. His demise occurred at the age of seventy-eight years, after a life of successful achievement. His wife's father, James Harvey, was one of the prosperous agriculturists of Minnesota. The Harveys have resided here for many years. The public schools of Faribault afforded Andrew J. Kelly his early education and after graduating from high school he took a course in the Metropolitan Business College in Minneapolis. He made his initial step into the business world as a clerk with the Northern Pacific Railroad, being stationed at Glendive, Montana, for three years, and at the termination of that time he returned to Minneapolis and became associated with the Prudential Life Insurance Company. He was active in that connection for three years and then went into the real estate and insurance business on his own account. For the past four years he has maintained well appointed offices in the Plymouth building and he is enjoying well-merited success in the conduct of his business. He is familiar with land values throughout the city, county and state and has built up an extensive and important patronage. He has extensive farm interests in Minnesota, owns his home in Minneapolis and has a substantial income from other properties. On the 9th of October, 1911, occurred the marriage of Mr. Kelly to Miss Clara Rommel, a daughter of Steven Rommel, who was a musician of note. His death occurred at the age of sixty-five years. Mrs. Kelly is a woman of much personal charm and she is active in the club and social circles of this city. The political allegiance of Mr. Kelly is given to the democratic party and the principles for which it stands. He is a consistent communicant of the Catholic church and he is a member of the Young Men's Club of the church. Fraternally he is identified with the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Kelly is essentially public-spirited and although he has never sought nor desired public preferment, his aid can always be counted upon in the furtherance of any movement for the upbuilding of the community. For recreation from business Mr. Kelly turns to the great outdoors. He is an enthusiastic baseball fan and enjoys hunting whenever he can find the time. His particular hobby, however, is scientific farming.
