KENT Minneapolis is proud to number among her native sons Harry E. Kent, who since 1912 has been secretary and treasurer of the North West Consolidated Milling Company. He was born on the 9th of February, 1860, in the house in which he now resides, at 800 University avenue, Southeast, a son of Henry M. and Susan H. (Rollins) Kent. The father was born in Vermont and the mother in New Hampshire. They located in Stillwater, Minnesota, in 1852, and in 1855 came to what was then St. Anthony. Mr. Kent built a sash, door and saw mill on Hennepin Island and he conducted it successfully until 1859. Later he was associated with various enterprises and achieved well-merited success in life. His demise occurred in 1891. Mrs. Kent died in 1874. Harry E. was the only child born to their union. In the acquirement of his education Harry E. Kent attended the Marcy school in St. Anthony and later graduated from the Winthrop high school. He attended a business college for a time and subsequently learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed three years. Later he entered the employ of the Sidle-Fletcher Holmes Com­pany, a large milling concern, and at the time of its consolidation with other mills as the North West Consolidated Milling Company in 1891 was active as cashier. In 1912 he was made secretary and treasurer of the company and he has since been active in this capacity. He is a man of keen discrimination and executive ability and he has been a dominant factor in the continued success of the enterprise. In Minneapolis, in 1906, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Kent and Miss Frances T. Broderick. To their union one son has been born, Henry E., Jr., who is a student in St. Thomas' College. Mrs. Kent is a woman of much culture and refine­ment and she takes an active interest in club and social affairs. Since attaining his majority Mr. Kent has given his political allegiance to the republican party and the principles for which it stands. Although he has never sought nor desired political preferment, he maintains an active interest in party affairs and is well informed on all important questions and issues of the day. Fraternally Mr. Kent is identified with the Masons and he has attained the Mystic Shrine by both York and Scottish rites. He is likewise affiliated with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He is an active member of the Minneapolis Civic & Commerce Association. The greater part of Mr. Kent's time and attention is devoted to his business interests. For recreation he turns to the great outdoors and he finds his greatest pleasure in motoring.
