Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical ======================================================== Vol II, pg 373 AXEL LARSON Axel Larson, who has spent practically his entire life in Minneapolis, is widely and favorably known in business circles of the city and is prominently identified with insurance interests, being recognized as one of the most successful agents in the city. He is a native of Sweden and was but a year old when he was brought to the United States by his parents, John A. and Anna (Ryberg) Larson, who were also born in the Land of the Midnight Sun. They did not remain in the eastern metropolis but at once started for the Northwest, with Minneapolis as their destination, and on the day following their arrival in this city the father started to work for the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad Company, this being in the month of March, in the year 1880. Mr. Larson is still in the employ of that road and he and his wife are numbered among the well known and highly respected residents of the city. In the public schools of Minneapolis, Axel Larson obtained his education and his initial business experience was secured in the office of Mr. Foster, then superintendent of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad Company, who is now general superintendent. From 1897 until 1903, or for a period of six years, Mr. Larson was thus engaged and from 1903 until 1907 he was employed in the office of the city clerk of Minneapolis. He next became connected with the insurance business as a solicitor and his success in this field led to his establishment of the Larson Insurance Agency in 1911. He has since been sole owner of the business, which has steadily developed from year to year, owing to his untiring efforts and capable management, and he is now controlling one of the leading agencies in the city. He sells all kinds of insurance except life, but makes a specialty of casualty insurance, and is also state agent for the New Amsterdam Casualty Company, having subagents all over Minnesota. Mr. Larson was united in marriage to Miss Alfreda Chinberg and they have two children, Everett and Annette. Mr. Larson is a member of the Lutheran church and his political support is given to the republican party. In matters of citizenship he is loyal, patriotic and public-spirited and during the World war was chairman of local draft board, No. 12, from May, 1917, until February, 1919, averaging sixteen hours a day on that work and laying aside all personal interests and considerations. He is a representative of the younger generation of business men whose energy and pro-gressiveness promise so much for the development of the city and that his course has been characterized by integrity and honor in every relation is indicated in the fact that he is accorded the unqualified respect and esteem of those who have known him from boyhood to the present time.
