He has excellent ability as an organizer, forms his plans readily and is determined in their execution. Since 1890 he has been identified with the meat business in Minneapolis and he now has several chain stores in this city and is organizing a chain of meat markets in various cities throughout the Northwest. Napoleon Latourelle was born in Saint David, Canada, on the 15th of April, 1872, a son of Joseph and Georgiana (Roberchue) Latourelle. The first ancestor of the Latourelles to come to this continent landed in Quebec in 1796. The father was born in Quebec, Canada, and came to this country, locating at Troy, New York, in 1882, afterward moving to Crookston, Minnesota. He engaged in the hotel business throughout his life, and he lived to be eighty-four years of age. The Roberchue family, of which the mother was a member, is an old and honored Canadian family also. In the acquirement of his education Napoleon Latourelle attended the public schools of Troy, New York, for two years and then went to Crookston, Minnesota, with his parents, where he completed his preliminary training. After putting his textbooks aside he accepted a position with the Great Northern Railroad at Minot, North Dakota, and was active in that connection for two years, when he made his initial step into the meat business. Subsequently he removed to Duluth, where he was engaged in the same line of business for five years, and during the summers he served as steward on the lake boat, "Christopher Columbus." For two years he was in the meat business, in Chicago and in 1890 came to Minneapolis and opened up a business of his own. He started with a very small capital, renting a place on Fourteenth avenue, Northeast, and remained there for two years. At the termination of that time his business was of such extensive proportions that he was obliged to open up a much larger place on Central avenue, and five years later he opened another branch store at No. 210 Hennepin avenue, which was known as the Gateway Meat Market, and he continued to establish branch stores until he had fifteen in operation. He is now organizing a chain of meat markets in various cities in the Northwest. The home office is located at Nos. 16-18 Fifth street, North, and is an up-to-date market house. Mr. Latourelle has proven himself to be an excellent business man, possessing keen executive ability and the genius for grasping every opportunity that comes to hand. The success he has achieved is the result of his own intelligently directed efforts and he well merits the respect accorded him by his fellow citizens. On the 15th of October, 1901, in Minneapolis, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Latourelle and Miss Emma Dupont, a daughter of Charles Dupont of Dayton, Minnesota. Her father was engaged in farming in this state for many years and was a highly esteemed citizen of the community in which he resided. His demise occurred at the age of sixty-two years. To Mr. and Mrs. Latourelle six children have been born: Lueile, who is twenty years of age; Bernice, aged seventeen; Marie, aged fifteen years; Alice, aged fourteen; Constance, thirteen years of age; and Napoleon, Jr., who is five. All of the children are students at the St. Catherine Academy, are brilliant pupils, and very popular among their many friends. Mrs. Latourelle is a woman of culture and refinement and she takes an active interest in the club and social circles of Minneapolis. In his political views Mr. Latourelle is a republican and although he has never sought nor desired political preferment, he is essentially public-spirited, and his cooperation can be counted upon in the furtherance of any movement for the benefit of the city at large. Fraternally he is identified with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Woodmen of the World and the Foresters. His religious faith is evidenced in the fact that he is a consistent communicant of the Notre Dame Catholic church. Socially he is identified with the Automobile Club. For recreation Mr. Latourelle turns to the great outdoors, is exceptionally fond of water sports, and is a skilled swimmer.
