LONEGREN Carl E. Lonegren has since the death of his father been active as president of the Oscar Lonegren Company, public accountants, and he is conceded to be one of the progressive business men in this city. A native of St. Paul, his birth occurred on the 1st of January, 1885, a son of Oscar and Augusta (Pearson) Lonegren. Oscar Lone­gren established the Oscar Lonegren Company in 1901, but did not carry on the busi­ness personally at that time, being actively engaged in the conduct of a drug business in Duluth. He was a well known man througnout Minnesota and a stump speaker of repute. He campaigned for McKinley in 1896 and again for McKinley and Roosevelt in 1900. He was a personal friend of Theodore Roosevelt and it was a notable coinci­dence that both Mr. Lonegren and Mr. Roosevelt were born on the same day of the same month and year. Mr. Lonegren was the first, deputy bank examiner in Minne­sota, which position was created especially for him. His demise on the 20th of April, 1921, lost for this state one of her most prominent and popular public men. His sons, Carl E. and Joe L., are now carrying on the business, which was incorporated on the 10th of January, 1920. Carl E. is president of the company and Joe L. is secretary. In the acquirement of his early educational training Carl E. Lonegren attended the public schools of St. Paul and during high school vacations held a position as messenger boy for the Hennepin County Savings' Bank. Going to Duluth with his parents in 1901 he .became connected with the American Exchange National Bank of Duluth, a connection he maintained for nine years. He was the first cashier of the Duluth State Bank and was active in that official' capacity when, after the entrance of the United Stages into the World war, he put all personal interests aside and enlisted in the army, becoming ordnance sergeant in the ordnance detachment of the Thirty-eighth artillery, C." A. C. At the close of the war he returned to Minneapolis and became associated with the Oscar Lonegren Company, becoming its president upon the death of his father. Under his executive guidance the company is enjoying continued success and Mr. Lonegren has gained a prominent position among the foremost business men of this city. On the 15th of September, 1911, occurred the marriage of Mr. Lonegren to Miss Blanche Avola Benton, a daughter of Colonel Everett C. Benton of Boston. Mrs. Lonegren is a woman of charming and magnetic personality and takes an active and prominent part in the club and social circles of Minneapolis. Fraternally Mr. Lonegren is identified with the Masons. He is past master of Ionic Lodge, No. 186, of Duluth and was the first master of Trinity Lodge No. 282, in that city, which lodge he helped to organize; he has been high priest of the chapter, York Rite; is a Knight Templar; and was thrice illustrious master of the council. As a public-spirited citizen he holds membership in the Calhoun Commercial Club and socially he is connected with the Odin and Areo clubs.
