LORING Starting out in the world at a very early age, Edward J. Loring has overcome all obstacles and difficulties in his path and has pressed steadily forward to the goal of success. He is now engaged in the general practice of law in Minneapolis and ranks with the able attorneys of the city. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, March 16, 1885, and his parents were William and Barbara (Brandel) Loring, the former a native of Bavaria, Germany, and the latter a representative of a family that was founded in America three generations ago. Edward J. Loring was but two years of age when his parents became residents of St. Paul, Minnesota, and he was a pupil in the grammar schools of that city until 1895, when he came to Minneapolis and attended the parochial schools here until thirteen years of age, at which time he took up electrical work and was thus occupied from 1899 until 1908. He next opened a quick repair shoe shop, which he conducted for three years, and then turned his attention to the real estate business. While thus engaged he spent his evenings in the study of law and was admitted to practice on the 12th of December, 1913. He at once entered upon the active work of the profession and became a member of the firm of Patterson, Loring & Anderson, with which he was connected for four years, when the senior partner withdrew, and their business is now conducted under the style of Loring & Anderson. They engage in the general practice of law and a liberal clientele has been accorded them. While advancement at the bar is proverbially slow, Mr. Loring has made substantial progress in his profession, readily mastering the intricacies of the law and preparing his cases with thoroughness, precision and skill. Mr. Loring married Miss Ella Gill and they have a large circle of friends in the city. He is a Catholic in religious faith, being a member of the Pro-Cathedral parish, and he is a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, of which organization he was presiding officer for two years. As a member of the Civic & Commerce Association he does all in his power to promote the welfare and progress of his city and he is also connected with the Golden Valley Golf Club. In July, 1918, Mr. Loring enlisted for service in the World war, being sent to the Officers' Training School at Camp Pike, and he received his discharge in December of that year. Each step in his career has been a forward one and through industry, ability and persistency of purpose he has won a well established position in a profession which requires a keen intellect, a quick wit and a constantly widening comprehension of the relations and responsibilities which go to make up civilized society.
