MARKLE Frank A. Markle is well known in business circles of Minneapolis as owner and manager of the Markle Motor Company. He was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on the 4th of April, 1884, a son of John and Sarah (Latimer) Markle, natives of Wisconsin. The father engaged in agricultural pursuits in that state for many years, subsequently retiring from active life and moving to Minneapolis. He was living in this city at the time of his demise, on the 12th of May, 1922. Mrs. Markle died in 1902. To Mr. and Mrs. Markle three sons were born, Frank A., whose name initiates this review, being the eldest. In the acquirement of his early education Frank A. Markle attended the public schools of La Crosse and subsequently was graduated from the high school there. He then entered the Wisconsin Business College and after putting his textbooks aside accepted a position as bookkeeper and accountant with the La Crosse Cracker & Candy Company of La Crosse. He held that position for two years and then came to Minne­apolis in 1904 to serve in the same capacity for the New England Furniture & Carpet Company. He filled various positions in this city until 1912, when he became associated with the Ford Motor Company, where he remained until 1914. He was then assistant manager of the Ford branch at Minneapolis until 1918, when he was sent to Fargo, North Dakota, as manager, occupying that position until 1920. In that year he returned to Minneapolis and organized the Markle Motor Company, handling Fordson tractors and Ford and Lincoln cars. He has built up an extensive business and is one of the most reliable automobile dealers in this section of the state. In Minneapolis, in July, 1904, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Markle and Mis? Mayme Koch, a daughter of John and Gertrude Koch. The Kochs are among the oldest and most honored families of La Crosse, Wisconsin. To Mr. and Mrs. Markle two children have been born: Gertrude and Claude. Since attaining his majority Mr. Markle has given his political allegiance to the republican party and the principles for which it stands. He maintains an active interest in civic affairs and is well informed on all important questions and issues of the day. Fraternally he is identified with the Masons, having attained the Mystic Shrine by both the York and Scottish rites. Socially he is a member of the Minne­apolis Automobile and the Minneapolis Athletic clubs. He is an active member of the Lake Street District Association of Commerce, in which body he is a director, and of the South Side Association. Along strictly business lines he is identified with the Minneapolis Garage Owners Association. The religious faith of Mr. Markle is that of the Methodist church and he is a generous contributor to its support. During the World war Mr. Markle gave generously of his time and money in the furtherance of the government's interests. He was active as lieutenant and then major in the Liberty Loan drives. For recreation Mr. Markle turns to the great outdoors and he finds his greatest pleasure in hunting and fishing.
