MASON Tom O. Mason, formerly president of the Republic State Bank of Minneapolis, is a financier of more than ordinary ability and his influence is one of broadening activity and strength in the field in which he is operating. He was born in Independence, Iowa, July 16, 1874, a son of John C. and Agnes (Hickey) Mason, both of whom were natives of the state of New York. He acquired his education in the grammar and high schools of Vail, Iowa, and his initial business experience was obtained as a telegraph operator. He next entered the field of journalism, becoming an editorial writer, and in 1900 he purchased the Cumberland (Wis.) Advocate, which he edited and published for seven years. After disposing of that paper he turned his attention to financial affairs, with which he has since been connected, and for seven years he served as president of the Island City State Bank of Cumberland, Wisconsin, later acquiring interests in other banks and also large realty holdings. His progressive spirit and powers of organization have led him into important connections and he is president of the Haugen (Wis.) State Bank and Barronett (Wis.) State Bank, and vice president of the First National Bank of Glenwood, Minnesota, of which banks he is also a director; and he is likewise a member of the board of directors of the Brill (Wis.) State Bank, the Midland Trust & Savings Bank of St. Paul, Minnesota, the Bankers National Bank and the Bankers Savings & Trust Bank of Minneapolis. He became one of the organizers of the Republic State Bank of Minneapolis and in March, 1919, was elected its president, serving in that capacity for three years when he sold his interest in the bank. He is considered an authority on financial matters and his carefully devised and promptly executed plans have been resultant factors in broadening the scope of the institution and promoting its success, for in his vocabulary there is no such word as fail. On the 8th of October, 1902, Mr. Mason was married to Miss Grace Carroll, the ceremony being performed at Barren, Wisconsin. Mr. Mason is a stanch republican in his political views and his opinions carry weight in its councils. For four years he served as chairman of the eleventh district republican congressional committee of Wisconsin and he has also been alderman and supervisor for the city of Cumberland, Wisconsin, where he maintains his summer home. In 1919 he was appointed by Governor E. L. Philipp the first president of the Wisconsin real estate brokers' board, thus indicating the high regard entertained for his ability in that field. Mr. Mason is a Catholic in religious faith and he is identified with the Knights of Columbus, the Minneapolis Athletic Club and the Madison Club of Madison, Wisconsin. In business circles he manifests the forcefulness, keen discrimination and ready understanding of involved interests which make him one of the chief factors in the promotion of the banking interests of the city, while his notable executive ability and unquestioned integrity have won for him the admiration and respect of all with whom he has been associated.
