A. A. James Ernest McLaughlin is one of the foremost accountants of Minneapolis and is the founder of McLaughlin & Company, public accountants. A native of England, he was born in Southport, Lancashire, on the 8th of December, 1880, a son of T. P. and Marie Elizabeth Trilleau McLaughlin, the former of English descent and the latter of French. His father, Mr. T. P. McLaughlin, was engaged in the importing business and resided in England until his death. James Ernest McLaughlin received his education in the schools of England and studied law for five years under John Hunt, a prominent attorney at law. He then took up accountancy, both public and private, continuing in this line, in which he is considered an expert and has served a large clientele since coming to the United States in 1910. He has the following degrees: Fellow Associated Accountants, London, and is a fellow and member of the Central Association of Accountancy of London, England, and of the Illinois Institute of Accountants. Mr. McLaughlin was married to Miss Susan Bond, a daughter of Mr. George Bond. Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin are members of the Episcopal church and Mr. McLaughlin is a member of the Masonic fraternity and the Knights of Pythias. He is a strict adherent of the republican party and the principles for which it stands. Although the greater part of his time and attention is devoted to his business, he is ever cognizant of the duties and responsibilities as well as the privileges of citizenship.
