MORSE Ward S. Morse, vice president and manager of the Leamington Hotel of Minne­apolis, has had broad experience along business lines and has risen to his present position through industry and ability. He was born in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. September 2, 1885, a son of George and Belle (Ward) Morse, and acquired his edu­cation in the public schools of that state and St. John's Military Academy at Dela-field, Wisconsin. His initial business experience was obtained as clerk in the mercantile establishment of the Farwell, Ozman & Kirk Company of St. Paul, with which he was identified from 1905 until 1907. He then embarked in an independent business venture, purchasing a retail hardware store at Hinckley, Minnesota, whict he conducted until 1909. On disposing of that business he became a traveling sales­man for the Gopher Hardware Company of Minneapolis, which he represented until 1911, when he was made vice president of the Pope Chemical Company of St. Paul During 1911 and 1912 he was employed as a salesman by the Adam Decker Hard­ware Company of St. Paul and in the latter year he became assistant superintendent of the Leamington Hotel of Minneapolis, acting in that capacity until 1914, when he was made manager. In 1920 he also assumed the duties of vice president and is now capably filling both offices. He is a popular host, closely studying the wishes of patrons and putting forth every effort to promote the comfort and well being of those who are his guests. His actions have at all times been characterized by a fidelity of purpose born of the desire to have every duty well done and he has suc­ceeded in maintaining a high degree of efficiency in the operation of the hotel, which ranks with the best in the northwest. On April 1, 1922, in Seattle, Mr. Morse was united in marriage to Miss Louise A. Chapman, a daughter of a prominent business man of that city. In politics Mr Morse maintains an independent attitude and he is an Episcopalian in religious faith For three years he was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard and during the World war he was actively interested in Red Cross work and also aided in promoting the War Savings Stamps campaign. His public spirit finds expression in his mem­bership with the Chamber of Commerce and while residing at Hinckley, Minnesota, he was a member of the board of aldermen. He is connected with the Automobile Club, the Lafayette Club and the Minneapolis Athletic Club and is also identified with the Greeters of America. Since January 1, 1922, he has been president of the Minneapolis Hotel & Restaurant Men's Association, while on the 5th of January of the same year he was elected vice president of the Minnesota State Hotel Men's Association and he is also a member of the Northwestern Hotel Men's Association. In his chosen field of activity he occupies a position of leadership and has become recognized as one of the leading hotel men in the northwest. He is keenly inter­ested in the development and upbuilding of the city and in the conduct of his busi­ness affairs he has displayed that spirit of enterprise which works for individual success and also constitutes a factor in public prosperity.
