Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical ======================================================== Vol II, pg 741-742 AXEL NEWDALL A prominent attorney and business man of Minneapolis is Axel Newdall, who was worn on a farm in southern Minnesota, a son of Nels adn Nellie Newdall, both natives of Sweden. The father came to this country in 1869 and located in St. Paul, Minnesota. He took up a homestead in Brown county, this state, a short time afterward and was one of the pioneer settlers of that section of the state. In the acquirement of his education Axel Newdall attended the country schoolsnear the home farm and in due time enrolled in the agricultural department of the University of Minnesota. After putting his textbooks aside he engaged in the mercan­tile business in Cobden for twelve years, achieving substantial success in that connec­tion. He then came to Minneapolis and engaged in the real estate business, studying law in his spare time. In 1916 he was admitted to the bar and he now enjoys an extensive and representative clientele in this city and handles much important litiga­tion before the courts. He is likewise active in business circles. He was one of the organizers of the Majestic Manufacturing Company. He patented a hair waver in 1917 and that is the principal product of the company. The factory turns out an average of twenty-five thousand a day. Mr. Newdall has had some military expe­rience, having enlisted in the United States army for service during the Spanish-American war. He was sent to the Philippines, where he was on duty for a year, never being off one day. He received his honorable discharge from the army at the end of seventeen months. The religious faith of Mr. Newdall is that of the Congregational church and he is a generous contributor to its support. His political endorsement is given to the republican party. He is public-spirited and his cooperation may be counted upon in the furtherance of any movement for the benefit of the city at large. Fraternally he is affiliated with the Masons and he is a Knight Templar and a member of Zuhrah Temple of the Mystic Shrine. He is likewise affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Modern Woodmen of America, and is an active member of the Young Men's Christian Association. He is also identified with the Superior Golf Club, being an enthusiastic golfer. For recreation Mr. Newdall turns to the great outdoors and he is exceptionally fond of hunting and fishing. He is unmarried.
