D. In the field of professional service Dr. Henry Odland has made rapid progress because of his ability, enterprise and determination, and he has already established his position among the leading medical practitioners of Minneapolis, although his residence in this city covers but three years. He was born at Hurley, South Dakota, March 12, 1887, a son of Eric H. and Olive Ann (Johnson) Odland, both of whom were natives of Norway. The father was but a year old at the time his parents came to the United States and in 1854 they became residents of Wisconsin. In 1860 they removed to South Dakota, where they acquired government land on which they resided for many years, bringing the tract to a high state of development, and on reaching manhood their son Eric also chose the occupation of farming. In the country schools of his native state Henry Odland acquired his early education, and he afterward attended the South Dakota State College. In the fall of 1909 he became a student at the University of Minnesota, from which he received the B. S. degree, and in 1915 he was graduated from that institution, winning the M. D. degree. The next two years were spent as an interne at the Royal Victoria Hospital of Montrea?, Canada, and he thus gained valuable practical experience. He then returned to Minneapolis and in November, 1917, enlisted for service in the World war, being commissioned a first lieutenant. He was an instructor in the Army Laboratory School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, which was later removed to New Haven, Connecticut, and was afterward known as the Yale Army Laboratory School. He was promoted to the rank cf adjutant and was stationed at that school until the signing of the armistice, when he was sent to Camp Grant, Illinois, where he remained for a month. He was then transferred to United States General Hospital, No. 35, at West Baden, Indiana, where he was mustered out as captain in the Medical Reserve Corps. He returned to this city, where he has since successfully followed his profession, with offices in the Metropolitan Bank building. He is now an instructor in dermatology and syphilis in the medical school of the University of Minnesota and is also on the medical staff of the Minneapolis General Hospital, having charge of cases of that nature, in addition to which he is caring for a large private practice. During the scholastic year of 1916-17 he acted as assistant instructor in pathology and bacteriology at McGill University of Montreal, Canada. He has a comprehensive understanding of the science of medicine and is correct in the application cf his knowledge to the needs of his patients. On the 8th of October, 1919, Dr. Odland was united in marriage to Miss Alice Chipman Fisher of Chatham, in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The Doctor is a member of the Minnesota Dermatological Society and Phi Delta Theta and Nu Sigma Nu, college fraternities. Close study and broad experience have augmented his knowledge and promoted his efficiency and he has become recognized as an expert dermatologist and an able exponent of his profession.
