GEORGE PELTON (John George Pelton) J. George Pelton, president of the LaSalle Motor Car Company of Minneapolis, was born on June 16, 1879, at Spring Green, Wisconsin, son of Byron R. and Mary (Clarkin) Pelton. His father was a native of the Empire state, while his mother was Irish by birth. The Pelton family is one of the oldest of the New England Puritan families, its American ancestors having come to Plymouth on the Mayflower. For some generations it has been established in New York state, where Mr. Pelton's grandfather and greatgrandfather lived all of their lives, the Pelton homestead being near Troy. J. George Pelton was educated in the schools of Spring Green, where he lived until he was twenty-one years old. His first venture into the commercial world was as a shoe salesman. In 1911 he left that line of trade for the automobile business that was just beginning to show what a power it would become in our industrial life. He established himself in his present location, at the corner of LaSalle avenue and Tenth street South, on the 15th of March, 1912, where for five years he displayed and sold the Franklin motor car. He now has the agency in Minneapolis for the Marmon automobile. In 1917 Mr. Pelton incorporated his business as the La Salle Motor Car Company, its present name, and has been the president and directing head since its organization. Mr. Pelton has never had occasion to regret his change from the shoe to the automobile business, for his efforts have always brought him merited success, his business increasing steadily and his excellent car attracting to his showrooms a desirable class of patrons. He has also become interested in other commercial enterprises in the Flour city, among them the Parker Garage Company, a holding company that he helped to found in 1912 and in which he holds the office of president. In Minneapolis, on the 6th of August, 1902, occurred the marriage of Mr. Pelton and Miss Annie Maude Wyman. They have become the parents of two sons, Theodore W. and Robert B. Pelton. Mr. Pelton is a member of the Stewart Presbyterian church of this city and a thirty-second degree Mason, belonging to Minneapolis Lodge, No. 19, A. F. & A. M.; Minneapolis Consistory, and Zuhrah Temple of the Mystic Shrine. He is a republican in his political views. Mr. Pelton takes a deep interest in the development of the civic and industrial welfare of Minneapolis, has belonged to the Rotary Club since 1911, and is an active worker in the Civic & Commerce Association. His clubs are the Automobile and Minneapolis Athletic clubs, in the latter of which he has been a member since its founding.------------------
