PRENDERGAST A prominent member of the Minneapolis bar is Edmund A. Prendergast, general solicitor for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, of which he is likewise a director. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, a son of Henry and Bridget (DeLanny) Prendergast. His father was a pioneer settler of this state, having located in St. Paul in 1856. He was interested in the upbuilding of that city up to 1880, when the family moved to Minneapolis, and he was one of the most highly respected and esteemed citizens of his day. Edmund A. Prendergast was four years old when the family moved to Minneapolis and he received his early education here and in due time enrolled at St. Thomas College where he took the classical course. For one year he was a student at the Grand House of Philosophy in Montreal, Canada, and then entered the law school of the University of Minnesota, from which institution he was graduated in 1898. In that same year he was admitted to the bar and practiced for two years in this city. In 1900 he entered the employ of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, and in 1903 was made, general counsel, in which position he was active until the 1st of June, 1921, when he took over the duties of general solicitor for the company. He is in charge of the legal department for Minnesota and North Dakota. Mr. Prendergast is a man of high ethical standards and well merits the position he has attained among the foremost members of the Minneapolis bar. On the 24th of April, 1909, occurred the marriage of Mr. Prendergast to Miss Georgia Kelly, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Kelly of this city. Mrs. Prendergast is a woman of much culture and refinement. Since attaining his majority Mr. Prendergast has given his stanch support to the republican party and the principles for which it stands. Although he is active in party councils, he has never sought nor desired public office preferring to devote his entire time and attention to his professional interests. Mr. Prendergast is a member of the Pro-Cathedral and one of its trustees. He has no fraternal affiliations. As a public- spirited citizen he holds membership in the Rotary Club and socially he is identified with the Minneapolis Club, the Minneapolis Athletic Club, the Minnesota Club of St. Paul, the University Club of St. Paul, and the Lafayette Club. Along strictly professional lines he is connected with the American Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association. Mr. Prendergast is a man of genial and pleasing personality and every one who knows him is his friend.
