He had formulated and executed plans which marked him as a most forceful and resourceful banker and had gained for him the high respect and honor of the banking fraternity throughout the state. Roy Quimby was born in Easton, Minnesota, February 11, 1882, his parents being Hosea and Caroline (Wiser) Quimby, who were natives of Wisconsin and in an early day pioneered to Minnesota. The father was born February 6, 1844, in Racine county, Wisconsin, and passed away bn the 13th of August, 1907. Roy Quimby received his early education in the schools of Easton and Fairmont, Minnesota. In the meantime his father had become identified with a bank at Vernon Center and on completing his school days the son entered the father's bank in the capacity of assistant cashier, there remaining for about six years and gaining his initial experience in the banking business. At the end of that period he branched out for himself and his course from that time forward was marked by steady growth and progress. In 1906 he opened a bank in Craik, Canada, which he conducted for a year and then sold to the Union Bank of Canada, after which he returned to his native state, settling at Mankato. When a year had passed he there established an automobile business, which he conducted for about a twelvemonth and in 1908 he came to Minneapolis. Here he organized the Minneapolis State Bank, now' the Minneapolis National Bank, of which he remained president for several years. He was continually winning success and also gaining knowledge and valuable experience that led him constantly to broaden the scope of his activities and make his service of great value to the communities in which he operated. He organized the Mortgage Security Company, of which he became president and from time to time he acquired interests in country banks until he was president of fourteen such, operated by the Mortgage Security Company. He also organized the Gateway State Bank, of which he was president until July, 1918, when he sold his stock therein. His opinions became recognized as of value and authority upon many financial problems and he took rank in banking circles with men who were many years his senior. On the 4th of March, 1901, Mr. Quimby was married to Miss Winifred Flora Pepper, a daughter of James A. and Angeline (Gerry) Pepper of Mankato, Minnesota. Their children are: Edgar R., Donald P., Margaret W. and Edna May, the last named now deceased. Mr. Quimby held membership in the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, also with the Minneapolis Athletic Club and his political endorsement was always given to the republican party. It seems that he should have been spared for many years to come because of his usefulness and his capability but when he had reached the thirty-seventh milestone on life's journey the call came. He left behind him a host of warm friends who cherish his memory, while enshrined in the hearts of his family is the sweet remembrance of many kindly deeds of husband and father.
