REGAN For the past forty years John J. Regan has been associated with his brothers, William M. and Joseph M. Regan, in the conduct of a wholesale bakery business, known as Regan Brothers Company of Minneapolis. John J. Regan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on the 8th of March, 1857, and is the son of Michael and Mary (Gallagher) Regan. His early education was obtained in the public schools of his native city and the Hughes high school, and completed in St. Xavier's College, which his two brothers also attended. When his college days were over John Regan entered the business world, his first position being in the dry goods establishment of Louis Stix & Company of Cincinnati, where he remained for eight years. In 1883 he came to Minneapolis to join his older brother William, who had started a wholesale cracker factory in this city the previous year. A year later John Regan was followed to Minneapolis by Joseph, the youngest of the three brothers, and since 1884 these three men have conducted one of the most successful industrial enterprises in their city. The subject of this sketch is the vice president of the company. The other officers, William M. Regan and Joseph M. Regan, are mentioned elsewhere in this work under their own names. John J. Regan was married on the 8th of January, 1885, to Miss Isabella MacVeigh, and they have become the parents of seven children: Eleanor, Bernadette, Isabelle, Agnes, Virginia, John MacVeigh and Charles J. Virginia is now Mrs. Thomas J. Kenneay of Los Angeles, California, and Isabelle married Martin P. Kennedy of Minneapolis. Eleanor and Agnes are nuns of the Order of the Sacred Heart, while Bernadette, who lives at home, is her father's boon companion and best "pal." John was educated at St. Thomas College and both sons were in military service during the World war. John enlisted for service in army aviation and was in the training camps of this country throughout his term, the armistice putting an end to hostilities before he was lucky enough to get orders for overseas duty. Charles was also educated at St. Thomas College and held the rank of colonel in the college regiment. He was in the naval aviation service, and he, too, missed the opportunity for foreign service by being: held in home camps until the armistice was signed. Like his brothers, Mr. Regan gives his support to the republican party in political matters. He is a Roman Catholic in religious faith, a member of the Pro-Cathedral congregation of Minneapolis, and a Knight of Columbus, in which order he has attained the fourth degree. An able business man and a gentleman upholding the highest standards of character, Mr. Regan has long held a place in Minneapolis as one cf the city's respected citizens.
