Scott has had broad experience as a legal practitioner and the public as well as the profession accord him a prominent position among the attorneys of Minneapolis. He was born at Rockford, Iowa, May 5, 1875, and is a son of Delos and Martha (Button) Scott, the former a native of New York and the latter of Wisconsin. For a number of years the father engaged in the real estate business but he is now living retired. In 1877 he went to South Dakota, casting in his lot with the pioneer settlers of the state, and he became the founder of Mitchell and also of the town of Wessington Springs. After completing his public school training Wallace D. Scott entered the University of Michigan, from which he was graduated in 1898, with the degree of Bachelor of Laws, and while a student at that institution he also acted as pitcher for the varsity baseball team. He began his professional career at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1898, and two years later he was called to public office, being elected states attorney of South Dakota, in which capacity he served for two terms. He then formed a partnership with United States Senator Alfred B. Kittredge, with whom he was associated until 1906, when he went to New York city as personal attorney for Frederic Gebhardt, one of the most prominent residents of the eastern metropolis. Mr. Scott remained in New York city until 1913, with the exception of two years spent in Europe, and then returned to South Dakota, becoming a candidate for the office of judge of the circuit court, but was defeated. In 1915 he came to Minneapolis, which has since been his home, and he is now controlling a large and representative clientele. As an attorney he is sound, clear-minded and well trained, fluent and convincing in argument, and a foe worthy of the steel of the most able opponent. Mr. Scott is a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association and the Elks Club. His ability has developed with the passing years and his talents, natural and acquired, have won for him distinction in his chosen calling.
