Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical Vol II, pg 446 RALPH W. C. SHULL Ralph W. C. Shull, one of the successful young business men of Minneapolis, has devoted his life to the lumber industry and is now capably directing the extensive enterprise built up by his father's constructive efforts, displaying in its management the same progressive spirit and marked administrative ability which characterized the latter and placed him at the head of important interests. Mr. Shull was born in Sac City, Iowa, January 7, 1886, and is a son of Willard C. and Alta Jane (Henton) Shull, natives of the state of New York. In early life they came to the west, locating in Iowa, where the father was identified with the lumber industry until 1890, when he removed to Minneapolis, and the business has since been successfully continued in this city. He has retired from active business pursuits and is now a resident of Los Angeles, California. In 1907 Ralph W. C. Shull was graduated from the Hill School at Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and he then entered the law department of the University of Minnesota, completing his course in that institution in 1909. In 1884 his father had organized the firm of J. & W. C. Shull, with which the subject of this review became associated in 1908, being made secretary and treasurer of the business. Since the retirement of Mr. Shull, Sr., Ralph W. C. has had entire charge of the business, which is one of large proportions, the firm now maintaining twenty retail yards, located in Iowa and Minnesota and a similar line of yards in California. He has a thorough knowledge of the lumber industry and while it is true that he entered upon a business already established, since assuming its management he has enlarged the enterprise and extended its scope until he is now controlling one of the largest undertakings of this character in a city which has become known throughout the country as the center of the lumber trade. Mr. Shull is unmarried and resides at the Minneapolis Club, of which he is a member, while he is also connected with the Lafayette Club, the Woodhill Country Club, and Psi Upsilon, a college fraternty. In matters of citizenship he is loyal, patriotic and public-spirited and during the World war he served as chairman of the fifth ward draft board. He is lending added prestige to an honored family name and is highly regarded in business circles of Minneapolis, having won many friends by reason of his high principles and fine personal qualities.
