Solem, lawyer and lawmaker of Minneapolis, has practiced his profession in this city for the past eighteen years and has also served as a member of the state legislature for two terms. He was born in Faribault, Minnesota, on the 1st of February, 1881, a son of Lars L. and Anne P. (Rothi) Solem, who were natives of Norway and crossed the Atlantic to the United States about 1875. They first took up their abode on a farm in Rice county, Minnesota, but subsequently removed to Faribault, where they continued to reside until the spring of 1884, when they came to Minneapolis. Here the father passed away on the 31st of October, 1919. The mother still makes her home in this city, where she has an extensive circle of warm friends. Ludwig O. Solem who was but three years of age when his parents established their home in Minneapolis, attended the public schools in the acquirement of an education and afterward entered upon specific preparation for a professional career as a student in the University of Minnesota, from which institution he was graduated with the degree of LL. B. in 1904. The same year he was admitted to the Minnesota bar and through the intervening period to the present time has remained an active and successful representative of the legal profession in Minneapolis, his clientage being now extensive and important. His ability is pronounced and has been attested by the various favorable verdicts that he has won. He enjoys the warm regard, confidence and goodwill of his professional brethren as a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association. As a lawmaker, too, his record is a most creditable one, for he served in the state legislature for two terms, or from January, 1917, until December, 1920, introducing a number of important bills and giving thoughtful and earnest consideration to the many vital questions which came up for settlement. On the 16th of January, 1907, Mr. Solem was united in marriage to Miss Frances Margaret Edwards of Minneapolis and they have become parents of two children, Margaret L. and Charles L. During the period of the World war Mr. Solem served as a member of the legal advisory board. He belongs to the Elks Club and the Calhoun Commercial Club and enjoys an enviable reputation as a valued resident and representative attorney of the city in which almost his entire life has been spent.
