Sturman, who was senior member of the Sturman & Nelson Electrical Company, passed away in June, 1921. He was yet a comparatively young man and his course had been marked by steady progress that promised well for the future. He was born on the 15th of April, 1884, in Delano, Minnesota, a son of John and Bell (Miller) Sturman, who was one of the pioneers of the state and aided in promoting the early development and progress of this section of the country. Roscoe C. Sturman spent his youthful days under the paternal roof and acquired his education in the public schools of Delano, passing through consecutive grades to the high school. When his textbooks were put aside he became engaged in electrical work and in 1904 removed to Minneapolis, where he entered the employ of the Telephone Company, with which he remained for several years. Steadily he was growing in knowledge and experience and at all times was actuated by a laudable ambition that prompted him eventually to resign his position with the Telephone Company and organize the Sturman & Nelson Electrical Company. The new undertaking prospered from the beginning, owing to the thoroughness, capability and close application of Mr. Sturman and his associate in the undertaking. On the 16th of June, 1921, however, he fell from a pole while doing some electrical work and sustained injuries which caused his demise. Mr. Sturman was married in May, 1903, to Miss Louise Kohnen, a daughter of John and Augusta (Marks) Kohnen, then of Maple Plain, Minnesota, but now of Minneapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Sturman became parents of three children: Alice Fay, Edith Fern and Roscoe C. Mr. Sturman and his family resided in Portland, Oregon, from 1910 until 1916 and then removed to Yakima, Washington, where they made their home until 1917, when they returned to Minneapolis. Mr. Sturman was a member of the Masonic fraternity, belonging to Khurum Lodge and at all times proving a faithful follower of the teachings and purposes of the craft. He likewise had membership in the Electrical Workers Union. His political belief was that of the democratic party, while his religious faith was that of the Unitarian church. He was a man worthy of all respect because of his fidelity to those principles which make for upright manhood and the upbuilding of character.
