TAYLOR George W. Taylor, a well known insurance man of Minneapolis, was born in Lafayette, Indiana, and is a representative of one of the old American families, his ancestors coming from England and casting in their lot with the early settlers of Virginia. Reared in his native state George W. Taylor attended the public schools of Indiana and also the Valparaiso Normal School, from which he was graduated with the class of 1881. He afterward engaged in teaching school for four years and then abandoned professional activities for the field of life insurance, which he entered in 1885. He continued a resident of Indiana until 1888, when he removed to Duluth, Minnesota, there remaining until 1898, when he went to North Dakota, where he continued in the insurance business until 1907. He has been at the head of an office for the Union Central Life Insurance Company for a quarter of a century and at the present writing is chief executive for the company at Minneapolis. He has built up a business of substantial proportions, being today recognized as a prominent figure in insurance circies in this city, the result of wide experience, close application and thoroughness in everything that he has undertaken. In 1883 Mr. Taylor was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Lister of Brookstown, Indiana, and they have become parents of four children: Frank Ethelbert, William J., Josephine and Charles Lister. The last named served with the heavy artillery branch of the army, being a member of the Three Hundred and Thirty-ninth Field Artillery during the World war. He was sent overseas and served all through the Meuse and Argonne offensives. He suffered shell shock and was honorably discharged after the signing of the armistice, having enlisted soon after the United States entered the war. The daughter, Josephine Taylor, is superintendent of the Glendale Kindergarten. Mr. Taylor is a life member of the Masonic lodge at Duluth. He also has membership with the Knights of Pythias and with the Elks lodge at Fargo, North Dakota. He belongs to the Minneapolis Athletic Club and the Minneapolis Golf Club, finding his chief recreation in a game on the links. He is also identified with the Civic & Commerce Association and is interested in all of the carefully defined efforts and activities of that organization for the benefit and upbuilding of the city. He has ever been actuated by a spirit of advancement as the years have passed and this has been manifest constantly in his career as an insurance man, bringing him to a most creditable position in insurance circles in his adopted city.
