TIMBERLAKE One of the representative citizens of Minneapolis is Byron H. Timberlake, actively connected with the Prudential Insurance Company and a prominent Mason. He was born at Salem, Indiana, on the 17th of August, 1861, a son of Aquilla and Jane (Thompson) Timberlake. The father was a native of Ohio, a farmer and educator, and lived at various times in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Oregon. His demise occurred at Scotts Mills, in the latter state, in 1905. His wife died in 1869. To their union one son and three daughters were born, Byron H. being the third in order of birth. Byron H. Timberlake received his education in the public schools of Indiana and Illinois and subsequently enrolled in the Minneapolis Academy and the University of Minnesota, from which latter institution he was graduated with the B. L. degree in 1891. Upon the completion of his education he entered the insurance business as cashier for the Masonic Mutual Aid, a position he held from 1892 to 1894. From 1895 to 1896 he was connected with the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company and he was deputy commissioner of insurance for the state of Minnesota from 1897 to 1899. Since 1899 he has been identified with the Prudential Insurance Company. Aside from the insurance business Mr. Timberlake has been prominent in political life and was elected to the state legislature on the republican ticket in 1905-1907. He served two terms from the University district, being very successful in convincing the legislators of the rapidly increasing needs of the University, particularly in transforming the Timberlake Bill" into the "Greater Campus," over the opposition of every recognized leader in the house. Mr. Timberlake has been twice married. On the 9th of June, 1891, occurred his marriage to Miss Emma Kemp, a classmate, whose demise occurred in 1899. She left the following children: Lucile, who is now Mrs. Kendall E. Graham of Shanghai, China, Mr. Graham being a representative of the Standard Oil Company there; Harold C., who married Miss Lillian Bjorhus, and is connected with the Federal Reserve Bulk of Minneapolis; and Birdie Emma, who is the wife of Frank C. Finch of Minneapolis, city salesman for Taylor's Home Canned Fruit. Mr. Timberlake was married the second time in January, 1901, Miss Lillian Chatterton, a daughter of Judge Joseph A. Chatterton of Redwood Falls, becoming his wife. The religious faith of the Timberlake family is that of the Episcopal church, in which they are generous workers. Fraternally Mr. Timberlake is identified with the Masons, holding membership in Cataract Lodge, Darius Commandery and Zuhrah Temple of the Mystic Shrine. He is Grand Generalissimo of the Grand Commandery and was secretary of the Minnesota Masonic Home, at Bloomington, this state. As a prominent Mason he is readily conceded to be one of the craft's exemplary members. Socially he is connected with the Minneapolis Athletic Club, Lafayette Club, Minneapolis Golf Club, and the college fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi. Along strictly business lines he holds membership in the Minneapolis Association of Life Underwriters, of which body he was one of the organizers. For recreation Mr. Timberlake turns to the great outdoors and is a golf enthusiast. The Timberlakes are very prominent socially and Mrs. Timberlake is a writer of some note. Recently while on a sojourn in China she completed a work entitled, "On Bubbling Well Road."
