His birth occurred on the 28th of December, 1890, a son of George E. and Jessie (Hale) Tuttle. The maternal grandfather, Jefferson Hale, was one of the pioneer merchants of this section of the country. He was a partner in the dry goods house of George W. Hale & Company, which opened the first establishment of its kind in this part of the state in the early '50s. This store stood on Washington avenue, between Marquette avenue and Second avenue, South. Later Mr. Hale was a partner of John W. Thomas in the conduct of a mercantile business. He was one of the most successful merchants and highly esteemed citizens of his day. In the acquirement of his early educational training Robert Hale Tuttle attended the public schools of this city and was a student at both East and West high schools. In due time he enrolled in the University of Minnesota, taking a mechanical engineering course, and he subsequently entered Boston Tech, being in the 1914 classes at both colleges. For a few years Mr. Tuttle was actively identified with Boston concerns, gaining much practical experience, and in 1919 he returned to Minneapolis and organized the Tuttle, Whitney Company, accountants and engineers, which was reorganized into the Tuttle Wolfe Company. Mr. Tuttle specializes in industrial engineering. The firm enjoys an extensive patronage and is one of this city's representative business interests. On the 9th of July, 1913, occurred the marriage of Mr. Tuttle to Miss Genevieve Palmer and to their union two daughters have been born: Margery Hale and Katherine Palmer. The political allegiance of Mr. Tuttle is given to the republican party and the principles for which it stands. Although he has never sought nor desired public preferment, Mr. Tuttle is ever cognizant of the duties and responsibilities as well as the privileges of good citizenship and no movement for the development and improvement of the general welfare seeks his aid in vain. The religious faith of Mr. Tuttle is that of the Plymouth Congregational church.
