Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical Vol II, pg 597-598 HAROLD B. WOOD A successful business man of Minneapolis is Harold B. Wood, a member of Kalman Wood & Company, investment bonds. He was born in Oxford county, Maine, in 1864, a son of Charles and Emma (Thurston) Wood, likewise natives of that state, and members of old and honored families. The father engaged in the real estate business for many years and won substantial success. His demise occurred in 1874 and was deeply regretted by his family and many friends. Mrs. Wood survived her husband until 1921. To their union two sons were born, Harold B., whose name introduces this review, being the youngest. The private schools of his birthplace afforded Harold B. Wood his early education and subsequently he became a student at the Phillips Andover Academy. In 1885 he came to Minneapolis but remained here only a short time, removing to Jamestown, North Dakota, where he engaged in the general mercantile business. In 1904 he returned to Minneapolis and became associated with the Wells Dickey Company, as director of the company and manager of the municipal bond department. He was connected with that concern until March, 1915, when he acquired an interest in Kalman & Company, investments. The firm was changed to Kalman, Matteson & Wool and upon the retirement of Mr. Matteson in 1920, the name was again changed, assuming its present form, Kalman Wood & Company. They have offices in both St. Paul and Minneapolis, and are widely known for their integrity and honesty, enjoying an ever-increasing -patronage. Mr. Wood has been twice married. In Maine, in 1886, was celebrated his marriage to Miss Cassie Hutchins of Fryeburg, Maine, a daughter of Henry and D. E. Hutching. The Hutchins family was one of the oldest and most honored in that section of state. Mrs. Wood died in 1904. She was the mother of one child, Harold Eaton, who married Margaret Frisbee, and they have two children, Thurston and Harriett. Harold Eaton Wood is a veteran of the World war, having enlisted as a private in the Marines, and was stationed at Mare Island, San Francisco, Quantico, Virginia, and later went to France, where he served one and one-half years. He was promoted to a captaincy and acted as assistant paymaster of the American Expeditionary Forces while in France. He received his honorable discharge with the rank of captain. In 1910 Mr. Harold B. Wood of this review married Miss Gena Johnson, the ceremony being performed in Minneapolis. Since attaining his majority Mr. Wood has given his stanch support to the republican party and the principles for which it stands. He is an active member of the Minneapolis Civic & Commerce Association and his cooperation can always be counted upon in the furtherance of any movement for the development and improvement of the community at large. His religious faith is that of the Presbyterian church. Fraternally he is identified with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and he belongs to the Minneapolis Club and the Minnesota Club. Along strictly business lines he holds membership in the Investment Bankers Association of America and is a director of the Midland National Bank of Minneapolis. Mr. Wood finds recreation in hunting and fishing and spends a great deal of his spare time following outdoor sports. He is a man of keen foresight and discrimination and has been an active factor in the continued success of the enterprise with which he is connected.
