FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Tom and Carolyn Thompson Submitted: March 2006 ========================================================================= This Obit is from The Ventura County Star, Ventura, CA. 3/26/2006 Camarillo Warren J. Klemz Warren J. Klemz, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, found relief from brain cancer on March 21, 2006. As a seven-year cancer survivor, Warren was the epitome of strength and determination. Always with a smile on his face and a joyous, positive attitude he was determined to live every day to the fullest. Warren was born on Sept. 9, 1925, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Edna Trafton and Louis Hugo Klemz. He graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1943, and three months later on his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the Air Force. His first duty station was in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he trained in aerial photography. It was in Alaska that Warren developed his interest in the B-29 airplane. In March 1945, he graduated from navigation school and began his career flying the B-29 and the B-50 airplanes. He married Vivian Campbell in 1949, and they had two children, Warren Joseph Jr. "Joe" and Virginia. In 1961, Warren received a Bachelor of Science degree in geodetic science from Ohio State University. He was in graduate school at OSU when he was assigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base. He was involved in supporting the Atlas, Titan and Minuteman missile projects as a geodetic survey squadron commander. Capt. Klemz retired from the Airforce at Vandenberg in 1965. After his military retirement Warren began his second career at the Naval Surface Warfare Base in Port Hueneme, where he was employed in the geodetic physics department. He retired in 1985. In 1998, he married Marcia Clardy and spent the remaining years living in Carmillo. He and Marcia traveled extensively by train and especially enjoyed their Eurorail vacation last year. Warren was a member of the Poinsetta Ham Radio Club and the Thursday Morning Investment Club. His hobbies included growing kiwi on his ranch in Wheeler Canyon, enjoying the birds and flowers and volunteering. He served as a lifeline volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital for 10 years and was a lifetime member of the hospital auxiliary. In addition he served briefly as a lifeline volunteer at the Camarillo Health Care District before his illness. Warren was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn and brothers Jim and Tom. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, and two children, Joe (wife Carol) of Bend, Ore., and Virginia Webber (husband Jeff) of Ventura. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Ramona and Jean, in Minnesota, and four grandchildren, Wolfgang and Elka Webber and Megan and Loren Klemz. In addition, he is survived by Marcia's children, Tessa, Karen and Benjamin Ryan Clardy, and granddaughter, Logan Ann Williams. Special thanks to Dr. Rosemary McIntyre and her staff at the Ventura County Hematology-Oncology Specialists and to Dr. Chuck Pankratz and his staff at Assisted Home Hospice. In addition, a most heartfelt thanks to the many friends who supported Warren and Marcia during such a difficult time and to the wonderful volunteers from Assisted Home Hospice and Camarillo Hospice who enriched his life in the final weeks. At his request, there will be no funeral. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. To My Dear and Loving Husband If ever two were one, then surely we. If ever man were lov'd by wife, then thee; If ever a wife was happy in a man, Compare with me, ye women, if you can I prize they love more than whole mines of gold. Or all the riches that the East doth hold. ========================================================================= Copyright Tom and Carolyn Thompson 2006.
