About six weeks before his death he had a stroke of paralysis which rendered him almost helpless and from which he was unable to recover. The funeral was held from St. John's Catholic Church on Thursday morning and was largely attended, the deceased being highly known and deeply respected throughout the vicinity. Deceased was born at Rathcormick Parish, County Cork, Ireland about 79 years ago. He came to this country while a young man and in 1855 was married in Hillsboro, Ohio. He and his wife came to this county in the early days and have since resided in our midst. Those left to mourn the loss of the deceased are his wife and seven children. Four children preceeeded him in death. Those living are Mre MacAbee of Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. John Graham and Mrs. Joe Sheridan of Lacrosse, Mrs. Charles Martin Madison, S. Dakota, Mrs. Henry Mulligan and Timothy and Edward Hayes of Caledonia, all of whom were here to attend the funeral, except Mrs. MacAbee. Mr. and Mrs. Mike McNamera and Frank Hayes of LaCrosse, relatives of the deceased, also attended the funeral. Mr. Hayes a hard working man, honest and upright, and his pleasant and familiar figure will be missed by many of his old acquaintances in the city and vicinity.
