It contains people that were Spring Vale neighbors or friends. Many are the Sweden surname for them. I have the Cambridge Lutheran graveyard list and found most in there, and the ship list for the Rättvik to Isanti list. And found many in there with both Swedish and American version of surnames. THE DIARY OF MRS. (SMED) ANDERS ANDERSSON WESTERBERG THE DIARY OF MRS.SMED ANDERS (Kerstin) ANDERSON WESTERBERG (1909-1929) This is the diary of my great-grandmother Kerstin, given to me because no one could read Swedish. I treasured it for many years up on a shelf until one day I decided it had to be readable. I asked my father if he would help me with it. Him being 93 years old at the time wasn't able to help me very long. I translated it word for word over a couple of years. (A Swedish lady from Duluth helped me with a little of it, then she had to quit.) I found it very interesting and want to share it with others. It contains people that were Spring Vale neighbors or friends. Many are the Sweden surname for them. I have the Cambridge Lutheran graveyard list and found most in there, and the ship list for the Rättvik to Isanti list. And found many in there with both Swedish and American version of surnames. KERSTIN'S STORY: Cherstin (Kerstin) Jonsdotter was born 1 September 1854 in Rättvik, Saträ, Sweden to Jon and Lisbet Andersson, and had a brother Anders Jonsson who stayed in Sweden and a brother Jon Jonsson who emigrated to America in 1887 and took the name Jon Westlund. He died a few years later while in America. Kerstin married Smed Anders Andersson on June 6, 1875 in Rättvik, Sweden. They came to America March 2, 1880, with her husband, Smed Anders (Smed) and son Anders (Andrew) b. Nov.15, 1875 and daughter Brita (Betsy) b.Oct. 24, 1878. They came to Smed Anders sister Brita Andersdotter-Mrs. Hans Sätterlund, of Springvale Township, Cambridge, Minnesota, who had emigrated in May 1867. In America they had children Christine b. Apr.8, 1882; Anna b. Nov. 30,1885; Selma b. Oct.13, 1889; sons; John b. Jun 24, 1892; Fred b. Jun 15, 1895, all born in Spring vale Township. Kerstin was a plain and tall lady who was very dedicated to her family and church, as was her husband. She started her diary when a daughter 'Selma' (married Albert Erickson) presented her with a "Day" book on October 31, 1908. As you will notice it is kept up on a monthly or seasonally basis whichever the highlights occurred. It started the first part of 1909. The first part is written in pencil and very hard to make out as Kerstin's grandson, Carl Westerberg (93 years old in 1998) is translating the first couple of pages for me (Irene Westerberg Hauner, daughter of Carl). Kerstin (in her diary) always calls herself "mor" and her husband "far". I changed it into "Kerstin" and "Smed" so it should be easier to understand who is who. 'In 2001 Karin Hedman-Larsson of Rättvik, Sweden helped make corrections on the reading of the diary and helped us with our family tree. Many thanks to her for the great work she does'. (Karin Hedman- Larsson stated "I don't think that S:A: Westerberg ever was called "Smed" when he lived. He was "Smed far" or "Smed Anders"). Some notes were added from Lavern Walleen-Larson-Swanson , of Cambridge, who at 80 years old remembered these people and incidents.
