Mr. Harthan was 69 years of age and came to this section of the country from Iowa about twelve years ago and has made his home on his farm near Rice Lake since that time. Surviving him are his widow, two daughters, and six sons. The daughters are: Mesdames Fred Adams and Casper Zobel and the sons, George, Grant, Henry, James, Harry, and Peter. Funeral services were conducted from the residence Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock and an impressive sight was the serving of the six sons as pallbearers for their father. Interment was made in the Itasca cemetery here. During his residence at Rice Lake Mr. Harthan was recognized by all who knew him well as a kind and loving husband and father, a good friend and a good citizen. Many friends will join this paper in extending sympathy to his bereaved family." Additional Comments: Peter (B 15 September 1855) and his brother, Henry Harthan, immigrated from Germany to the United States arriving in July of 1872. They settled in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, farming there most of their lives until Peter moved to Itasca County. Peter's biography is posted on the IAGen Web in Cerro Gordo County.
