Hedquist was born on December 1, 1931, in Springfield Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Herbert C. and Elizabeth (Hilariedes) Hedquist. He received his early education in country school and later finished his schooling in Brewster. Reuben then enlisted in the United States Navy and spent the next four years honorably serving his country until being honorably discharged and returning to Worthington. After six to seven years, Reuben moved to Kindred, North Dakota before moving back to Worthington several years later. On November 15, 1975, Reuben was united in marriage to Bonnie Lucille Franzen in Worthington, Minnesota. After marriage, Reuben and Bonnie lived in Worthington and then moved to two miles north of Windom before purchasing their current home in Wilder. Through over fifty-two years, Reuben drove truck over the road for several different companies including and finally for the last sixteen years, he drove for Monson Trucking of Lakefield. In all of his years of trucking, Reuben was able to cross all continuous forty-eight states. Reuben recently had been in declining health but was still driving truck until October 14, 2007 when he was too sick to drive and was brought off his route in Kansas and brought home to Wilder. Reuben was hospitalized in Windom on October 26, 2007 after a few days in the hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On Saturday morning, with his family at his bedside, Reuben passed away at the Windom Area Hospital at the age of 75. Reuben was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom; a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion Post 206 in Windom. Reuben had several enjoyments in life which included trucking, camping and spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. Reuben’s grateful family includes two daughters, Rhonda Henton (Trevor) of Worthington; Teresa Rogers (Brian) of Worthington; six step-sons, Perry Scheigert (Cindy Bullerman) of Fulda; Les Speckmier (Sue Daniels) of Fulda; Brad Schweigert (Brenda) of Fulda; Kevin Schweigert (Sue) of Fulda; Paul Schweigert (Pam) of Windom; Clare Schweigert (Candi) of Alexandria; 21 grandchildren; 17 _ great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Eiland of Portland, OR; Bonnie Nelson (Richard) of Minnetonka; two sister-in-laws, Pat Hedquist of Heron Lake; Charlene Hedquist of Lake Park, IA; mother-in-law, Rachel Franzen of Brewster; and many, many nieces and nephews. Reuben is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; three brothers, John, Luverne and Jerome Hedquist; two sisters, Gladys Groff and Patricia Davis. Funeral services were held at the American Lutheran Church in Windom, MN on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 1:30 PM with Pastors Terry Frovik and Stephen Norby officiating. The organist was Carol Vought. Usher swere John Helgeson and Marvin Einertson. Casketbearers were: Ed Monson, John Hedquist, Danny Schipper, Kayle Koep, Kenny Hunter, Jr. and Doug Tiesler. Honorary Bearers were: Dave Monson, Tim Monson, Rich Mohlencamp, Marv Gunder, Mike Stammer, Steve Schultz, Woody Wittmus, Willy Winkler, and Russell Jurgens. Military honors were by the American Legion Post 206 ~Windom, Minnesota.
