FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: December 2006 ========================================================================= Max Austin Hibma - A memorial service for Max Hibma, 87, was held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 5, 2006, at United Methodist Church in Jackson, with Pastor David Brown and Pastor Steve Mehl, Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Jackson, with military rites by Jackson American Legion and VFW Posts, and flag presentation by Melvin Rasmussen, retired Veterans Service Officer. Max passed away Dec. 2, 2006 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. Casket bearers were Tom Snedeker, Larry C. Hansen, Randy Thompson, Scott Possin, Andrew Hansen, and Troy Thompson. Honorary bearers were John Olson, David Muir, Tom Stinar, Gordon Olson, Rodney Muir, John Malone, and Eddie Anderson. Ushers were Fat Kielblock and Dick Libra. Max Austin Hibma was born on Feb 22, 1919, in Allendorf, Iowa, the son of Auke and Lena M. (Lewis) Hibma. As a youngster, the family moved to the Rushmore, Minn., area, where Max attended elementary school. He later graduated from Worthington High School. In 1941, Max entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. While in the service, Max learned to become an electrician. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he worked for Ed Muir as an electrician. He was united in marriage to Lucille Thompson on Jan. 19, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Worthington. In 1948, Max and Daivd Muir started M & H Electric, which they operated until 1984, when they sold it to his son-in-law, Larry C. Hansen. He continued helping around the shop until a few months ago. Max was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jackson, where he was active on the building committee and was a member of various other committees, and he had been a trustee. Max was a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts in Jackson. He was a member of the Minnesota Electrical Association. He was a past member of the Masons. Max enjoyed playing golf, working crossword puzzles, and working with wood. His family was very important to him, and he enjoyed spending time with them. Max is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucille of Jackson; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy (Tom) Snedeker of Garvin, and Barbara (Larry C) Hansen of Jackson; three grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Possin, Molly and Andrew Hansen; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Chloe Possin; and one brother, Sidney Hibma of Sacramento, CA.
