FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: September 2005 ========================================================================= Born Bernice Marie Miranowski on February 6, 1917, in Heron Lake, MN to John Joseph Miranowski and Cora Gertrude Haberman. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in Visalia, CA. Nicknamed Mira, she attended nursing school at St. Mary's School of Nursing, graduating in August 1938. She worked as a surgical nurse and nursing supervisor before joining the Navy at the start of World War II. She met her first husband, Dr. Colin C. McRae, at the Corona Naval Hospital in Corona, CA, and they were married in 1946 in San Francisco where they raised five sons - Colin, John, Don, Richard, and Tom. Dr. McRae, a surgeon who served as President of the Board of Trustees of St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco from March 1962 until March 1965, passed away in 1967. During her time in San Francisco, Mira was very active in her sons' schools and the St. Francis Hospital Medical Auxiliary. Following Dr. McRae's death, she returned to nursing at the Seamen's Medical Center in San Francisco. In 1973, Mira married Dr. A. Chester Twinem, a general practitioner associated with Kaweah Delta District Hospital in Visalia, CA. Dr. and Mrs. Twinem loved to travel, covering much of the world during their years together. Mira is survived by her husband, Chester, her five sons, Chester's children (Bill Twinem, Kati Jones, Maggi Twinen, her sister Lorraine Wisdorf, her brother, Don Miranowski, her first husband's daughter, Joanne Gschwendtner.
