One of Kanabec county’s foremost men of public service passed away at his home in Brunswick township on Saturday morning, July 28, after several years of poor health and much suffering. Anton Peterson was born in the city of St. Paul on August 22, 1875, and when he was about one year old his parents moved to Kanabec county, Brunswick township. Here Mr. Peterson grew to manhood, attended the public school in district number eight, and there he received his common school education, and with this education as a foundation, he educated himself to a high degree of ability and efficiency. Mr. Peterson was a self-made man of a high standard. In 1904 he was elected County Auditor of Kanabec county, and this office he held for ten years, from which he resigned the last term. On the third of November, 1905, Mr. Peterson was united in marriage to Miss Inga Hanson of Mora, Minn. To them was born one son, Harry. The same year that he resigned from the County Auditor’s office, he was elected to the House of Representatives, from the 55th district, in the year 1914, and in this office he served for two terms, until the year 1919. During the war he was appointed by the government as food administrator, inspecting grain elevators and flour mills and in the year 1920 he took the U. S. census of Kanabec county. Most of his days were spent in the service of the public. In the year 1920 the family moved to St. Paul, and there Mr. Peterson was employed by the Northern Pacific railroad, and worked with them for three years. In the year 1924 his health began to fail, when they moved back to Brunswick township. Mr. Peterson underwent an operation last April, from which he did not recover, and for the past five months had been confined to bed and had suffered greatly, his ailment also causing blindness. After much suffering, he passed away at his home at 5:15 a.m. Saturday morning, July 28, at an age of 52 years, 11 months and 6 days. He is deeply mourned by his beloved wife, Mrs. Inga Peterson, the son Harry, and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harry Peterson; one half-sister, Mrs. Lewis Olson of Sacramento, Calif., and many other relatives, and a host of friends and co-workers throughout the state. May his memories long remain with us. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31, at 1:30 from the home and at 2:30 from the Brunswick Lutheran Church, and interment made in that cemetery, in the family lot where Mr. Peterson’s parents are resting. Rev. C. S. Ericson of Brunswick officiated. The Odd Fellow’s Lodge of Mora, of which Mr. Peterson was a member, acted as pallbearers, and other members took and [sic] active part. The funeral services were largely attended and the floral tributes many and beautiful. The county officers of Kanabec County attended the funeral in a body.
