She was born May 13, 1916, at Fouke, Arkansas to Robert and Addie (Ramsey) Morgan. She moved as a small child with her parents to Sulphur Springs, Texas. Her childhood and youth were spent on a small farm outside Sulpher Springs. After graduating high school there, she began nurses training at Long’s Hospital. She married Richard Pottratz, March 9, 1940, and moved to Hillman Township, Minnesota, where she lived until 1986 when she made her home in Mora. Maude and Richard were the parents of three children. Among her many interests and activities were painting, sewing, gardening, needlework, crocheting and knitting. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving as president in 1955. Her membership in the Sew and So Club, Kanabec County Art Association, Legion Auxiliary, and Zion Ladies Aid gave her much pleasurable activity. Maude volunteered at numerous projects and organizations and was known as a kind, caring and loving person to her family and many friends and acquaintances. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and her husband, Richard. Surviving are one son Richard Davis Pottratz and wife Patricia; two daughters Mary Rowley and husband Larry, and Katherine Hovland and husband Einar; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
