Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: djjdowns Willmar Tribune Wednesday, January 10, 1900 Died. Downes at his home in the town. of Green Lake, Tuesday Jan. 2, at 6 PM. Michael Downes of catarrh of the stomach, aged 67 years. The funeral occurred last Friday at 11 o'clock in St. Patrick's Church, town of Kandiyohi, of which the deceased was a member. A large number of relatives and friends followed the remains to their last resting place. Deceased was one of the county's early settlers and a man greatly respected in his community. He was born in the County of Clare, Ireland, and came to America about 40 years ago. He first settled in Illinois, afterwards removing to Scott County, Minnesota. Later he took up residence in Kandiyohi County, where he has resided for the past 31 years as a Green Lake citizen. He served in the Sioux Indian War under General Sibley. Deceased leaves as survivors a widow and family of nine children, all residents of the town of Green Lake except his son Martin, who lives in Murdock, Minnesota. Other near relatives are his brothers; James and Daniel of Green Lake; John of Graceville; Thomas residing in Ireland; and his sister Bridget, who lives in Chicago. The family and relatives have the sympathy of the community in their affliction.
