Downs Had Been County Resident Since 1869" Martin V. Downs, one of the pioneer residents of Kandiyohi County was laid to rest at the Catholic church cemetery at Kandiyohi last Friday morning. Mr. Downs died following an illness of pneumonia, while making his home in Chicago, where he had resided the past year. Born at Prior Lake, Minnesota, November 11, 1868, he came to Kandiyohi when only a year and a half old, and resided here since that time, with the exception of the last year. May 3, 1892 he was married to Mary Vadnis (Vadanis), and to that union nine sons and one daughter were born, all of whom are living. The sons and their wives, and the daughter and son-in-law were in attendance at the funeral Friday. The six oldest sons were pallbearers. Those from a distance in attendance were Mr. Down's two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Sweeney of Nebraska, and Mrs. George Sanderson of inneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Daugherty and sons of St. Paul, Mrs. George Bennett, son-in-law and daughter of St. Paul; Mrs. Matt Casey and son John of Sedan; Mr. and Mrs. John Walsh and daughter of Murdock; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hannon of Litchfield; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Daugherty of Waverly; Mr. and Mrs. Raphael Daugherty and daughter of Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kavanagh of Murdock, as well as many relatives and friends from neighboring towns. There were many beautiful floral offerings, including a large bouquet of roses fromthe Western Electric Company of Chicago, where several of the sons are employed. ============================================================================
