Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: djjdowns Daniel Downs, An Old Resident, Passes Away At That Place Daniel Downs, one of the old residents of Kandiyohi County, died at his late home a few miles from the village of that name on Wednesday, October 27, aged 73 years. His illness was of long standing, caused by a runaway two years ago, in which he was injured and from the effects of which he finally died. He was born in Milltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland, in 1836, coming to this country over fifty years ago. In 1864 Mr. Downs was married to Catherine Tierney in St. Paul. She died in 1876, five children having been born to them. In 1878 he was again married to Mrs. John Lawler, whose maiden name had been Annie Doherty, and who now survives him. By this marriage four children were born, all of whom are living. Beside his wife and the nine children mentioned, three brothers and one sister are left to mourn, namely James of Kandiyohi, John of Graceville, Thomas, who resides in Ireland, and Mrs. B. Curtis, whose home is in Chicago. The funeral took place last Saturday morning from St. Patrick's Church, Kandiyohi, the pastor, Rev. Father McDevitt, conducting the services. The attendance was very large, many being present from the outside, among them being Mr. and Mrs. John Downs of Graceville. One of the old settlers, deceased was held in the utmost respect by his friends and neighbors. A devout and practical Catholic, his remains were laid to rest in St. Patrick's cemetery, the pallbearers being Jeremiah Lawler, Patrick Lawler, John Carlin, James Lawler, John Murray and John Burns.
