Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: djjdowns ================================================================== Mrs. James Downs Mrs. James Downs was one of Kandiyohi County's early settlers, coming here from Scott County in 1862 and took a claim on a homestead three and one half miles northwest of Kandiyohi. In 1910 her husband James Downs died at the home of their daughter, Mrs. J. H. Carlin. The deceased was born in County Clare, Ireland on the 25th of November 1823 thus at the time of her death was 95 years, 11 months and 4 days. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James McNulty at Stanley, North Dakota. The remains were shipped to Kandiyohi for burial. She leaves to mourn her death five children, four daughters, Mrs. J.H. Carlin of Chase, B.C., Mrs. John Casey of Darwin, Minnesota, Mrs. James McNulty of Stanley, North Dakota, and one son, J.M. Downs of Spokane, Washington. Mrs. Downs is also mourned by 34 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and a host of friends. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. John Casey, Thomas and Patrick Casey of Darwin, John Downs of Graceville, J. H. Carlin of Chase, B.C. and Mrs. James McNulty of Stanley, North Dakota. The funeral services were held at the Catholic Church at Kandiyohi by Father McDevitt of Willmar and Father Carlin of Marshall and after which the remains were taken to the last resting place at the Catholic cemetery one and one half miles north of Kandiyohi.
