FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Pam Kantola Submitted: February 2004 ========================================================================= Wilmar West Central Tribune, Nov. 2, 1964, page 9 Three Gustafson Brothers are Buried Within a Week (photo) Martin Gustafson-Alfred Gustafson-Edward Gustafson Funeral services were held in New London for Martin, Alfred and Edward Gustafson, the last three members of the family of Frank and Johanna Gustafson, pioneer residents of the New London area. The three, all of whom were born and raised on the Gustafson homestead just west of New London, died within a period of a week's time. The Rev. B. R. Quanbeck officiated at each of the services held on three subsequent days and Leroy, Adolph, Ernest, Walter, Harry and Chester Gustafson served as pallbearers for each of their uncles. Alfred Gustafson whose death occurred August 8, at the Litchfield hospital, was buried Tuesday, August 11, at the Lebanon Lutheran church cemetery following the service at 2 PM in the Lebanon Church at New London. Mrs. Robert Niemiste presided at the organ and also accompanied Mrs. Franklin Rose as she sang "The Lord is My Shepherd" and Mrs. Harry Dokkesven and Miss Eunice Soderlund who sang "My God and I". Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bernie Henschien, Wallace Bengtson, Albert Bengtson, Otto Henschien, Thilmer Anderson and James Skaalerud. Alfred Leonard Gustafson was born March 29, 1879. Baptized and confirmed by the Rev. A. F. Seastrand, he was a member of the Lebanon Lutheran congregation for many years. In April 1905 he was united in marriage to Minnie T. Bengtson. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Gunnar Landaas (Goldie) of New London and Mrs. Melvin Qvamso (Annie) of Dearwood. Mrs Gustafson died September 28, 1923. In November 1932 he was married to Mary Alice Olson Berg of Grove City. They were blessed with one daughter, Mary Jane, now Mrs. James Freundschuh, of Lakeville. Alfred was employed at the New London Milling Company for more than twenty years. He also worked on the Great Northern Railroad and was also a carpenter and cabinet maker. Interested in music, he played in the New London city band. Mr. and Mrs. Gustafson moved to Walker in 1944/6 where they resided until September 1963. Since that time, he had made his home at the Dassel Community Nursing Home.
