FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Pam Kantola Submitted: February 2004 ========================================================================= "Obituary - August Johnson," New Londn Times, page 1, 1 Dec 1949, August Johnson Funeral Nov. 16th One of the early pioneers of this community, August Johnson, 87, died at the homeof Walter Gustafson of Minneapolis on Nove 13th. He was brought back to the home town and buried in Oak Hill Cemetery on Nov. 16th, with funeral services from Johnson Funeral Home, with Rev. Pearson conducting services. Many years ago he was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church in New London and for serval years worked here as a carpenter. For some time he made his home with his brother, Levi, at New Hampton, Iowa. He leaves to survive him three brothers and one sister; Martin Gustafson of Montevideo, Alfred Gustafson of LaPorte, MN, Edwin Gustafson of Minneapolis and his sister Alice, Mres Alfred Gustafson and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were three brothers; Emil Johnson of Minneapolis, Levi Gustafson of New Hampton, Iowa and France Gustafson of New London. He was born in Sweden on July 2, 1862 and came to this country with his mother at the age of seven. At the funeral the singers were Mrs. Melbourne Swenson, Mrs. Rudy Dusek and Mr. Gunnar Landaas. The organist was Mrs. Emil Olson, Pallbearers were Roy, Walter, Harold, Arthur and Chester Gustafson and Lester Johnson."
