Funeral of Peter G. Thompson
Life Runes of Unique Character of Northern Part of Kandiyohi County
The funeral of Peter G. Thomposn of Lake Andrew, of whose death mention 
was made in a previous issue of the Daily Tribune, was held last Wednesday, 
June 7. Services were held at the Willmar Funeral Home at one O'clock and 
were conducted by Rev. Chester Dahlberg of New London. There was also a 
solo by Rev. Dahlberg and a duet sung by Mrs. Dahlberg and Mrs. Roy Johnson 
The inferment was made in the family lot at the Lebanon cemetery at New 
London, where Rev. Dahlberg also officiated and spoke briefly. Two duets 
were sung by Hazel and Sylvia Olander, the pallbearers were Harold Tustad, 
Otto Mankel, Otto Henschien, Vernie Henschien, Clarence Lindahl and Wallace 
Lindahl.
Petter G. Thomposn halls from one of the very oldest pioneer families of 
Kandiyohi County, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Goran P. Thompson having settled 
in Nest Lake in 1860. During the Indian Outbreak of '62 the family left and 
made their Home for several years at Red Wing, where Peter was born on 
September 8. 1865. In 1875, when Peter was a boy of ten, the family returned 
to the New London community, where the deceased has lived ever since with 
the exception of the years 1904 and 1905 when he proved up a homestead at 
Black Duck, Minn., and 1909 and 1910 when he sojourned with his brother John 
at Bohman County, ND.
Mr Thompson was an engineer and old time thresher man. For 3 years he was 
the engineer at the New London Mill.  The beauty of Lake Andrew always had 
an attraction to Peter. About thirty years ago he acquired property on the 
North shore of the lake and in company with his brother-in-law, John Fremberg, 
built a hotel. This venture never proved a success however; and the building 
was torn down.
In 1911 he acquired land on the west shore of the lake and started the 
summer colony known as Como Beach. Here together with his brother John, he 
built a saw mill and has engaged in sawing of lumber for about 23 years.
Peter never married and after the death of his Mother, he had together with 
his brother John, the carefree life of a bachelor. He had the natural 
instincts of the pioneer, ever ready to try new ventures, always kind hearted 
and upright in his dealings.
About six weeks ago his heart began to fail him and four days before his death 
he was taken to a hospital at Willmar where he died June 3rd at the age of 67 
years, 8 months and 23 days.
The deceased is mourned by one brother; John, two sisters; Mrs. John Fremberg 
of Lake Andrew and Mrs. Emil Johnson of Minneapolis, besides a large number of 
other relatives.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the help and the many 
expressions of sympathy given us in our recent sorrow, the loss of our 
brother. Especially do we thank for the beautiful flowers and particularly 
Rev. Chester Dahlberg who officiated at the the funeral.
