She was born Nov. 23, 1920 to Oscar and Alma (Hakala) Hanninen in Linden Grove, MN where she grew up and attended schools. As a young lady she worked at various jobs in Ely including Burntside Lodge. She married Arnold Handberg in 1946 and they moved to Silver Bay in 1954, where she has since made her home. Eleanor was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church and the Silver Bay Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold in 1995. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Karen) of Silver Bay and Tom; a daughter, Janet (John) Schultz of Fargo; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Friday, March 18 in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
