"Declaration for Widow's Pension"
WAR OF 1812

DECLARATION OF A WIDOW FOR PENSION UNDER ACT OF FEBRUARY 14, 1871.

STATE OF _Minnesota_, COUNTY OF _LeSueur_, ss:
On this _30th_ day of _October_, A.D. one thousand eight hundred 
and seventy-_one_ personally appeared before me _John P Hoyt Clerk_, 
of the _District Court_ a court of record within and for the county 
and State aforesaid, _Salley Thayer_ aged _Seventy nine_ years, a 
resident of _Cleveland_, county of _LeSueur_ State of _Minnesota_, 
who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the 
widow of _Israel Thayer_, who served the full period of sixty days 
in the _Military_ who _was drafted_ in Captain _Ellis Artillery_'s 
company _New York_ regiment, _[blank]_ brigade, _[blank]_ division, 
discharged at _Brownsville, Sacketts Harbor_, on the _[blank]_ day 
of _October_, 181[blank]; that _[blank]_ that she was married under 
the name of _Salley Linsey_ to said _Israel Thayer_ on the _First_ 
day of _January_, 18_12_, by _Mr. Stebbins a Justice of the Peace_ 
at _Madison_, county of _Madison_, State _New York_, there being no 
legal barrier to said marriage; that her said husband died at 
_Pulasky Township Williams Co. Ohio_ on the _28th_ day of _June_, 
18_58_, and that she has not remarried since his death; that at no 
time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United 
States, did she or her said husband adhere to the cause of the 
enemies of the Government, giving them aid or comfort, or exercise 
the functions of any office whatever under any authority, or 
pretended authority, in hostility to the United States; that she 
will support the Constitution of the United States; that she is 
not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that she makes 
this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension 
roll of the United States under the provisions of the act approved 
February 14, 1871, and hereby constitutes and appoints, with full 
power of substitution and revocation _ Felix A Borer_, _LeSueur 
Minnesota_, her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim 
and procure the issuance of a pension certificate to her.  That 
her post office address is _LeSueur_, county of _LeSueur_, State 
of _Minnesota_, and her domicile or place of abode is _in Cleveland 
Township_

sworn, say: They were present and saw _Sally Thayer_, the claimant,
sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that 
they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said 
claimant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical 
person one represented herself to be; and at not time during the 
late rebellion against the authority of the United States did she, 
or her said husband, adhere to the cause of the enemies of the 
Government, or give them aid or comfort; and that they have no 
interest in the prosecution of this claim.

"Power of Attorney"
POWER OF ATTORNEY

Know all Men by these Presents, That _J. Felix A Borer of LeSeuer 
County_ of _Le Seuer_ in the State of _Minnesota_, have made, 
constituted and appointed, and by these presents do make, constitute 
and appoint _and substitute William H Beck of Washington D. C._ my 
true and lawful Attorney irrevocable, for me and in my name, place 
and stead, hereby annulling and revoking all former Powers of 
Attorney or authorizations whatever in the premises, to _act in 
the claim of Mrs Sallie Thayer for pension as widow (1812), hereto 
annexed_ and to, from time to time, furnish any further evidence 
necessary or that may be demanded, giving and granting to my said
Attorney full power and authority to do and perform all and every 
act and thing whatsoever requisite and necessary to be done in and 
about the premises, as fully to all intents and purposes as I might 
or could do, if personally present at the doing thereof, with full 
power of substitution and revocation, and to receipt and sign all 
vouchers, hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said Attorney 
or h_is_ substitute may or shall lawfully do or cause to be done by
virtue hereof.

In witness whereof, I hereunto set my hand and seal, this _Tenth_ 
day of _December_, eighteen hundred and seventy-_Two_.

executed the foregoing Letter of Attorney, and the same having been 
first read over to h_im_ and the contents thereof explained, 
acknowledged the same to be h_is_ act and deed, and that I have no 
interest present or prospective in the claim.

"Affidavit"

_On this Seventeenth day of February A. D. one thousand Eight 
hundred and Seventy three, personally appeared before me, Homer 
F Halleck aged 43 years and John Halleck aged 41 years who being
first duly sworn according to Law, declares, each for himself, 
that they well knew and were personally acquainted with Israel 
Thayer and Salley Thayer, his wife, of Pulaski Williams County 
Ohio, that said Israel Thayer was their nearest neighbor in said 
Pulaski Township County of Williams and State of Ohio, that he 
died on or about the 28th day of June 1857, that they have known 
said Salley Thayer widow of Israel Thayer, since the death of her 
said husband and [????] near neighbors to her now and see her 
frequently, and that she has not remarried since his death, and 
that afficiants have no interest in the prosecution of said Salley 
Thayer's claim for a Pension._

between Israel Thayer and Salley Linsey the following named of the

Marriage Records in my Office on page 293 where the name was recorded 
on the 4th day of January A. D. 1873 and that the same is a correct 
transcript therefrom and of the whole thereof._

BRIEF OF CLAIM FOR A WIDOW'S PENSION

in the case of _Sally Thayer_, widow of _Israel Thayer_, a _[blank]_ 
of Captain _Ellis_ Company, Colonel _[blank]_ Reg't, _N. Y. Mil._ 
Residence, _LeSueur Co. Minnesota_ Post Office address, Le Sueur, 
LeSueur Co. Minn._ Soldier enlisted _August 11_, 18_13_, Discharged
_October 13_

Declaration and identification in due form, filed _December 16_, 18_72_.

SERVICE FOR SIXTY DAYS SHOWN AS FOLLOWS:

_B. L. Div. supports "warrant issued to soldier for service as 
above from 11th Aug. to 13th Oct. 1813."

Total service, _64_ days. Soldier died _June 28_, 18_57_; date and 
fact established by _affidavits of Homer F. Hallock and John Hallock._  
Continued widowhood since his death established by testimony of 
_Homer F. Hallock._ and _John Hallock._

Marriage to soldier prior to February 17, 1815, established by _
certified copy of marriage certificate, showing marriage, Jan. 1st 1812._

Oath to support the Constitution of the United States subscribed.  
Non-receipt of pension declared.  Loyalty established by affidavits 
of _A. C. Smith_ and _Lotta Smith_.

Admitted _April 22nd_, 187_3_, to a pension of eight dollars per 
month, from February 14, 1871.
