At the time of his death the deceased was seventy-seven years of age. The deceased was born in Bohemia, Austria, and came to this country forty-two years ago taking up his residence on a farm about seven miles southeast of this city where he followed the occupation of farming until about eight years ago when he moved to this city with his wife, where he has since lived in retirement. The late Mathias Kopet was a hard-working frugal man, who enjoyed the respect and confidence of a large concourse of friends. He was a good father a kind husband and above all an accomodating neighbor, and his death removes from this community one of the best known of the early pioneers. He was also a firm believer of the Roman Catholic faith, and in his last hours was strengthened by its holy rites. He leaves to mourn his sad demise two sons, Thomas and James, and one daughter, Mrs. Jacob Shirek [sic], and his sorrowing widow, all who have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow. The funeral services were held from the Catholic church in this city at ten o'clock last Monday forenoon, Rev. Father Polasek officiating and the interment was made in the family lot in Calvary cemetery. The Messenger extends sympathy to the relatives.
