The following is the text of the front page obituary for Robert Zinda Sr. 
as it appeared in the Ivanhoe Times dated March 26, 1937. The newspaper 
was published in Ivanhoe Minnesota and boasts a circulation of Ivanhoe and 
Lincoln county. This particular edition was Vol. XXXVL No.40.

ROB'T. ZINDA SR. PASSED AWAY AT AGE OF 69 YEARS
Was Highly Respected Citizen and Business Man of Ivanhoe the Past Twenty-
Three Years
Robert O. Zinda Sr. passed from this life on Thursday morning, March 18, 
at his home here, death being due to cancer. He was at the time of his death 
68 years, 11 months, and 11 days of age. He had been ailing for about a year, 
with the last six months finding him losing strength and vitality very rapidly 
in his struggle against the incurable cancer. 

Robert Zinda was born in the province of Posen, German Poland, on April 7, 
1868, where he spent the first few years of his early childhood. At the age 
of nine years he immigrated to this country with his parents, the family 
coming directly to Minnesota. They first established themselves at Hastings, 
Minn., where a goodly portion of his youth was spent, and later moved to 
Appleton Minn., where the deceased grew to young manhood. 

On February 10, 1892 he was united in marriage to Miss Christine Pretrowski 
at Appleton, and the young couple set up a home in Westbrook township, Swift 
county, where he engaged in farming for a
period of fifteen years. The Zinda family then moved to Halloway, Minn., 
where the deceased conducted a public barroom for eight years. In June, 
1914, this business establishment was sold and the family moved to Ivanhoe 
where Mr. Zinda purchased his present business from John
Sperka.
For the past twenty- three years the Zinda family has made its home here, 
and during that span of time Robert Zinda has been a business man, kindly 
neighbor, and jovial friend in this community. He leaves behind him many 
friends who will long remember his cheery person. Old and young of this 
community will always associate a pleasant greeting and a jovial smile with 
that character and name which is no longer with us.
As a husband and a father he held the absolute devotion and affection of a 
family who will miss him greatly. As a neighbor and a citizen he held the 
good wishes and kind thoughts of all who knew him. This was evidenced by 
the trust which was placed in him, and for the past few years he enjoyed a 
position as member of the village council.
His life-span had been a comparatively long one on this earth, and its 
completion, though a sad one and an untimely one, marks the end of an 
individual who had found success in a quiet manner, and enjoyed the serene 
and peaceful surroundings of a well-established home and a host of friends. 
His later years must have been those of satisfaction.
To the above union thirteen children were born, all of whom survive their 
father. They are: Mrs. M. C. Maza, of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Stanley Blaszak, 
Porter; Anton Zinda, Ivanhoe; Harry Zinda, Ivanhoe; Leon Zinda, Chicago, 
Ill.; Mrs. Wm. Giles, Los Angeles, Calif.; Louis Zinda, Chicago, Ill.; 
Alexander Zinda, Santa Ana, Calif.; Mrs Arthur E. Speight, Porter; Robert 
Zinda Jr., Ivanhoe; and Walter, Stanley, and Roy of Ivanhoe. He is also 
survived by five brothers as follows: Bernard, Joseph, and Martin of Wibaux, 
Mont.; Frank, Sauk Center, Minn.; and Mike, Appleton, Minn., and by sixteen 
grandchildren. 

All of the children attended the funeral of their father with the exception 
of Mrs. Wm. Giles, of Los Angeles, Calif., who was unable to come because of 
illness. Out-of-town relatives who attended last rites, which were held in SS 
Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ivanhoe Saturday morning at 7 o'clock, were: 
Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Maza of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Zinda of Chicago; 
Alexander Zinda of
Santa Ana, Calif.; and Anna, John, and Sam Zinda of Appleton , Minn., the 
latter three being a niece and two nephews of the deceased.

Pallbearers were members of the village council, as follows: Sam Qualley, 
John Muchlinski, Frank Kluczny, and Leo Stellmach; and John Pukrop and John 
Froegel.
To the surviving wife and children who are left to mourn the departure of 
a loving husband and father, sympathy of a host of friends, in which the 
Times wishes to be numbered, is extended in their hour of bereavement.
Card of Thanks. We wish to extend our most sincere thanks to the many 
neighbors and friends who were so extremely kind to us during the illness 
and death of our husband and father. For the many kind deeds which were 
extended, and the many floral offerings and spiritual bouquets which were 
given, do we especially wish to show our gratitude.
