FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: October 2005 ========================================================================= 1915 - Cyrilla August Kerkaert - 2005 Cyrilla was born on July 3, 1915, in Kanagen, Belgium, to Constance and Emmerence (Damman) DeVlieger. In 1920, she moved with her family to the United States. On October 10, 1935, she was united in marriage to Leo Kerkaert in Ghent. The family farmed in Lyon County until 1962 when they bought and began operating Kerkaert's Store south of Marshall. The couple operated the store for over 30 years. Cyrilla enjoyed quilting, embroidery, playing cards, growing flowers and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. In September, 2003, Cyrilla moved to the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She died on Saturday, September 10, 2005, at the Manor at the age of 90. Cyrilla is survived by sons: Camiel (Georgia), Alexandria; Albert (Maxine), Balaton; Leonard, Bellingham, MN; Kenneth, Lismore, MN; daughters: Marie Miller, Redwood Falls; Theresa (Tom) Lenz, South Haven, MN; Elizabeth (David) Miller-Peterson, Garvin; Florence (Chuck) Sandberg, Marshall; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo; parents Constance and Emmerence DeVlieger; brothers: Cyril DeVlieger, Joe DeVlieger and Albert DeVlieger; sister Mary Nuy Dwire; infant son Richard Kerkaert; two grandsons Jonathon Kerkaert and Michael Kerkaert; daughter-in-law DeAnn Kerkaert; son-in-law Roger Miller. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation continues from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment follows the service at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.
