FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: April 2007 ========================================================================= Einar Carleton Oftedal age 88 of Cottonwood, MN passed away on Monday, March 19, 2007 at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday March 23, 2007 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church, and will continue one hour prior to services on Friday. The Kulow Funeral Service– Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Einar Carleton Oftedal was born October 23, 1918 in Sandness Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN to Ludwig & Sina (Holen) Oftedal. He was baptized November 24, 1918 and confirmed June 11, 1933 at Silo Lutheran Church, which is now Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Einar graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1937. On April 23, 1944, Einar was united in marriage to Elsie Jappe. Together the couple lived and farmed on the family farm three miles north of Green Valley. The farm was dedicated as a Century Farm in 1994. Einar was a life long member of Christ Lutheran Church. He was very active in politics. He enjoyed traveling, which he frequently did with the Garst Seed Corn Company for which he was a dealer. Einar’s main passion was farming. He was a member of the Minnesota Farm Bureau, and served on the Lyon County Farm Bureau Board. He was a nine year participant in the Farmers Bureau Idea Exchange, and worked on numerous inventions throughout his lifetime. He was also a member of the Corn Growers Association, and the Minnesota Soy Bean Growers Association. Einar is survived by his two daughters: Janice Oftedal of Cottonwood, and Diane Milbrath and husband Dean of Lake Elmo, MN. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews.
