FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Becky Davidson Submitted: September 2007 ========================================================================= Obituary extracted from the Minneota Mascot March 25, 1898 Mrs Gudbjorg (Jonsdottir) Peterson, wife of Gunnloger Peterson in Westerheim, died at her home Monday morning the 21st inst. For over a year she had suffered from cancer in the neck which finally, in spite of all medical efforts, proved fatal. She was 61 years of age and leaves a husband and two daughters. The funeral took place yesterday from the Icel. Luth. church, Rev B B Jonsson officiating. It was largely attended, many people coming from Lincoln county and Minneota being present. About 50 vehicles conveyed the funeral procession. Deceased was a native of Iceland, but immigrated to this country with her husband in 1873 and settled in Iowa county, Wis. Two years later they moved to Minnesota, settling on their now beautiful farm on July 4, 1875. They were about the first to settle in Westerheim and the first Icelandic pioneers to this state. Mrs Peterson was an intelligent woman of noble character. Many of the leading families of the Icelandic settlements both of Westerheim and Lincoln county are related to her and she leaves a host of friends who mourn her death." ========================================================================= Copyright Becky Davidson 2007.
