FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: March 2005 ========================================================================= Leone Mae Swenson - Leone Mae Swenson was born May 21, 1924 to Clarence and Lena (Olson) Halsne on a farm in Ellsborough Township, Murray County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended both country school and Ruthton High School in Ruthton, MN. On September 10, 1943 Leone married Sidney W. Swenson at the Sillerud Lutheran Church, rural Balaton, MN. They made their home on several different farms in the Ruthton areas, moving into Ruthton in 1966 and after a brief time on a farm near Balaton they settled in Balaton in 1976. Leone was a housewife all her life and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton. She enjoyed playing games and cards, reading her bible, loved dogs and was an avid Minnesota twins fan. Leone will always be remembered for he daily coffee parties and her endearing optimistic spirit. In December of 2000 Leone became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton, where she died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the age of 80. Leone is survived by her three daughters, Janeen (Byron) Kopelien of Cottonwood, MN, Sonja (Sheryl) Wait of Ihlen, MN and Paula (Marty) Freeman of Slayton, MN; one son, Lonnie (Jeannine) Swenson of Ihlen, MN; eight grandchildren, Brant and Brad Kompelien, Allison and Mellisa Wait, Katie and Charlie Freeman, Jennifer Rice and Rebecca Swenson; five great- grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Liesl, Avery, and Olivia; one sister-in- law, Thelma Halsne of Tyler, MN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her parents, husband, Sidney, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were January 29th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. Rev. Steven Quist officiating. Interment was at Skandia Cemetery, Skandia Township, Minnesota.
