FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SATURDAY
AT NAZARETH LUTHERAN CHURCH FOR LONG TIME RESIDENT

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Nazareth Danish 
Lutheran church for Chris Petersen whose death came on Wednesday, 
March 26, (1930) at his home on College Avenue and Oak Street. The 
cause of his death was spasmodic asthma. He was 81 years and ten 
months old at the time of his death.

The Rev. J. J. Lerager, pastor of the Nazareth church, officiated at 
the funeral, which was largely attended. Pallbearers were P. J. Peterson, 
I. Martin Peterson, J. P. Anderson, Peter Hansen, Peter Thompson and 
Ole K. Thompson. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

Mr. Petersen was born in Vejle, Denmark, on May 25, 1848. He was in 
military training in Denmark at age of 18 years and in 1871 married 
Anna Sophia Frederickson who died ten years later. To this union three 
children were born, the only surviving child being Nels Christensen, 
now living at Rock Springs, Wyoming.

On March 21, 1883 he took his second wife Miss Mette Jensen, who 
preceded him in death only two years ago. At the time of their marriage 
they came to America locating at Oxford, New Jersey, and later moving 
to Minnesota. From That time they have made their home in and near 
Hutchinson.

Seven children were born to this union, all of whom are surviving and 
were at the bedside. They are Sophus of Superior, Wis.; John N. of 
Silver Lake; Chris M. of Minneapolis; Hans M., Mrs. Elmer Miller (Martha) 
and the Misses Anna and Marie, all of Hutchinson. He is also survived 
by 12 grandchildren.

People from out of town who attended the funeral were the eldest son 
Nels Christensen of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Mr. And Mrs. Sophus 
Petersen and two sons Marinus and Carl of Superior, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. 
John N. Petersen and two sons Richard and Kenneth of Silver Lake; Mr. 
and Mrs. Chris M. Peterson and two daughters, Mildred and Evelyn of 
Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Oistad, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Oistad and 
Melvin Meyer of St. Paul, and Mr. and Mrs. Jens Juul of Litchfield.

Petersen leaves many friends to regret his passing. He was employed 
for many years as caretaker of the Citizens Bank building but retired 
from active labor three years ago.  He was a member of the Danish Nazareth 
Lutheran church and also of the Danish Brotherhood of America and was 
always an active worker in both organizations until the time of his death.
